At a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan will unveil “Detroit Promise,” a program to give all high school graduates in the city two free years of community college.
The Detroit Promise program, the Detroit Free Press reports, will be a permanent source of funding to offer any student in the city who graduates from high school two years of higher education—enough to earn an Associate’s Degree—tuition free.
The program is modeled on one started by Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm in 10 cities around the state.
