Here’s why you might soon be lying down at the office

Altwork designed an office chair that lets you lie down while you work, hopefully preventing health problems linked to sitting all day.

Altwork has designed a new chair, similar to one you’d find in a dentist’s office, that allows you to lie down while you work, the U.K.’s Independent reports.

The chair provides head support and has a movable desk that will make your workday more comfortable. There is space for up to four monitors and a keyboard, and magnets prevent the mouse from falling as you recline. The chair itself supports anything from standing to lying flat on your back.

Altwork has received over $1 million in funding to build the reclining office chair. When the product reaches market, it’s expected to cost $5,900, but early adopters can get it at a discounted price of $3,900.

Why do this? Studies have shown that people who spend their whole workday sitting down at a desk have more health problems. They have a higher risk of getting cancer or having a heart attack, and they tend to have more back and neck problems.

A poll included in the Independent article asks whether or not readers would even want to use this chair, and 77% of those who responded (at the time of writing) said they would.
