Uber is having a horrible, no good, very bad week. But it doesn’t appear to be hurting the company’s ability to attract new users.
The on-demand ride company’s app is currently ranked #41 in Apple’s (AAPL) App Store, which is the exact same ranking as it had last Thursday. Moreover, its U.S. rankings for this past Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were actually higher than were their rankings on the same days one week earlier (i.e., before the world learned about Uber’s various lapses of user privacy and executive ethics). Here’s the chart, from mobile data research firm App Annie (you’ll notice consistent weekday dips and weekend spikes, plus a big rush around Halloween):
Pretty similar story when looking at the Google Play store for U.S. downloads.
So consider this just one data point out of what will become many, when determining if Uber was just involved in a fender-bender or a major accident.
