Next Apple event slated for Oct. 16, company says: ‘It’s been way too long’

Invitations for the event, which will be a little over a month after the company's last product launch, include the phrase: 'It's been way too long.'

A little over a month is apparently too much down time between very special Apple events.

The tech giant announced Wednesday that it will hold its next “special event” on Oct. 16 in Cupertino, Calif. Apple (AAPL) sent out invitations to the October event with precious little information aside from the time, date and location. Images of the invitation, which shows the top outline of the company’s logo and the phrase “It’s been way too long,” have already popped up on Twitter:

The news comes almost exactly a month after Apple hosted a product launch spectacle that included the unveiling of its new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus along with the Apple Watch and the Apple Pay mobile payment system.

The company has long been rumored to be revealing its newest iPads at the now-official October 16 event, including a possible gold iPad. The event could also feature updated iMacs with a retina display.
