Report of iPad 2 delay retracted

[UPDATE: Reuters, citing an unnamed source “familiar with the matter,” has retracted its report of an iPad 2 delay. The Loop‘s Jim Dalrymple, citing no sources, has declared both delay reports “not true.” And All Things Digital‘s Kara Swisher has announced that Apple will hold an iPad 2 event on March 2. No source for that one either. It’s been a busy day for Mr. Unnamed Source. Apple’s shares, however, were still down more than $10 in mid-afternoon trading.]

A pair of reports out of Apple’s (AAPL) Asian supply chain suggest that two of the company’s biggest product updates of 2011 may be facing delays.

• The new version of the iPad that was widely expected to be unveiled in April may be delayed until June, according to Bloomberg and Reuters‘ reports that cite analysts from Taipei-based Yuanta Securities. The reported cause: “production bottlenecks” at Hon Hai’s Foxconn factories.
• In a separate report, Business Insider quotes FBR Capital’s Craig Berger to the effect that the launch of the next iPhone may be pushed back from June or July to September. According to Berger, various casing and touchscreen suppliers are still ramping up, some chip vendors have not yet received their orders, and plans for “other sockets like the image sensor” are still in flux.

Meanwhile, all signs continue to point to the launch of a refreshed crop of MacBook Pros on Thursday, just in time for Steve Jobs’ 56th birthday.
